Any one can prosper, and make money, from the 'so-called' global financial meltdown! Find opportunities in every threat...
Financial Global Meltdown or the Emperor's New Clothes?
The tale of the Emperor's new clothes tells a story about how a king, so
overwhelmed with his own superiority, he was tricked into paying for imaginary,
invisible clothes on the basis that only someone intelligent could see them. He
was talked into parading in public, nude!
Is the global meltdown "sold" blind panic by fearful and conservative
management, rather than adjustment in the financial industry that was long
overdue?
Some badly managed companies go bust – so what?
Did we shut down when FAI, Ansett, and One.Tel went broke – all within 12 months
of each other? When AMP lost billions, did we all decide to retard our business
expectations for years to come?
While there is an inevitable ripple to be felt, is the global meltdown also due
to the business world (and business media) turning a mole-hill into a mountain
using fear to inflate the threat from an economic bogeyman?
Are we suffering a syndrome synonymous with Chicken Little running through the
streets screaming “the sky is falling!” ?
At Launch Engineering, we believe excellence in Marketing Management can create
opportunity from the Global Financial meltdown....

The Man Who Sold Hot Dogs
There was a man who lived by the side of the road and
sold hot dogs.
He was hard of hearing so he had no radio.
His eyes were weak, so he had no use of newspapers.
He didn’t look at television.
But, he sold great hot dogs.
He put up signs on the highway telling how great they were.
He stood on the side of the road and yelled, “Buy my hot-dogs!”
And people bought.
He increased his meat and bun order.
He bought a bigger stove to take care of his trade.
He put his son through University with the profits and soon his son came home to
help him out.
But then something happened.
His son said, “Father, haven’t you read the news, seen the TV or listened to the
radio? There’s a big depression. Europe is shaky. Asia is out of control. We
could crash at any time. The world is crumbling with inflation, riots,
pollution, drugs, wars, terrorism, unemployment, crime and shrinking resources.”
Whereupon the father thought, “Well my son’s been to uni, he reads the papers,
listens to the news and watches the current affairs programmes - he ought to
know!”
So the father cut down on his meat and bun order. He took down his advertising
signs, and no longer bothered to yell at passing customers to come and try his
hot dogs.
And his sales fell almost overnight
“You were right, son”, he said.
Times ARE tougher than we’d thought they would be! I’m sure glad we saved the
money
we would have spent on then signs, and all that yelling I didn’t have to do!”
The moral is clear. Individual businesses can prosper in adverse conditions,
not by running in fear, but by maintaining successful marketing strategies.
